Movie of the Week: Paris When It Sizzles (1964)

Paris when it Sizzles certainly started off with a bang leaving the audience wondering what is going on. They're left to piece the story together that Richard Benson (played by William Holden) is writing a screenplay and Ms. Simpson (played by Audrey Hepburn) is translating his story into print on the typewriter. It becomes obvious that Ms. Simpson is taken with Benson when he acts quite unprofessional around her- often touching her while telling the story she is supposed to be typing up. In many cases- she can't even properly reach the typewriter because his lips are wrapped around hers. The story bounces back and forth between the duo writing the screenplay, and the duo acting AS the screenplay while the screenplay is still being written. In the screenplay Benson is composing- they both act as spies and are trying to loot a certain film so they can make a profit- but it goes terribly wrong and at the end of Benson's screenplay he is shot trying to escape on a private jet and Hepburn is left crying at his side in medieval revers and a hennin no less! After Ms. Simpson has completed tying the story, she begins to tear up- asking him if there could be a happy ending to the script. Benson quickly tells her that she or anything else (including his scripts) doesn't mean a thing to him and throws her out of his house. She quickly finds another man to spend some brief time with at a local festival but is quickly interrupted by a steaming Richard Benson who so quickly professes that he loves her after losing her to another man. He punches the man she was with and they run away together and decide to write a more romantic script. They kiss at the end, and ba-da-boom.... a full-blown fairy tale, kids. 

In my opinion, Hepburn is no less stunning than in Green Mansions or even perhaps Breakfast at Tiffany's... but certainly not Funny Face. Funny Face trumps them all. In any case, I found this film very entertaining in the beginning- a real go getter for action, romance, and a bit of mystery. Also, the costumes are classically beautiful with a Hollywood twist when the audience is treated to a costume party! Audrey Hepburn lives on!

Dark Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Banana Almond Milk Pops

These are definitely one of the less dangerous popsicles I have concocted. They're all health! Of course there is chocolate.... but let's look past that one little fact because I used dark chocolate chips! I love putting slices of banana and sprinkling cinnamon on top! It could honestly just be served with these toppings at a restaurant *cough*. Justified? Maybe? 

Dark Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Banana Almondmilk Pops:

(Blend together in blender)

1 handful of dark chocolate chips

1 fresh ripe banana

1/2 cup of almond milk

a few dashes of cinnamon until your heart's desire

Pour into your popsicle molds and freeze them for about 3-4 hours!

Today was a day in which I definitely indulged myself. I knew I would be up pretty late packing boxes and organizing my apartment for my move to New York City. I woke up and had this *strange and unusual* craving to go to the mall, which I never want to do. I went to Sephora and bought the orange lipstick I am wearing in these photographs  and also this dress. I've been really getting back into Bollywood music lately, and I highly suggest listening to the "Eena Meena Deeka" track at the end of this post! It will make you perk up immediately! :)

Inside my Inspiration Sketchbook

Last night I wasn't feeling too well and I decided to sit down and collage some magazines my friend Hannah gave to me after she was done reading them. She makes notes on them and it was interesting to read her thoughts vs seeing what I collaged from the magazines. Thank you for the magazines, Hannah! Anyway- I've had this particular sketchbook for exactly 4 years now and it serves as a quick sketch and an inspirational place for me to collage and get inspired by colors and shapes. I like to take notes in this book, too... and you might be able to make out some notes I took from my first fashion collection from last year. It's a calm place for me.... I highly suggest journaling in this way! Happy Sunday to YOU!

Bella Ritz for Paulie Antiques Summer 2013

A few days ago, Bella Ritz and I went on a shoot by one of my favorite ponds in Champaign. We laughed and drank iced coffee after the shoot and I generally had a wonderful time with her despite the fact that she is 15 and I am 23. I admire her courage, sincerity, beauty, and manners to no end. Thank you for being as beautiful inside as you are on the outside, Bella.
