New York City and why I left....

o40Qta on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs
After living in New York City for about 2 1/2 months... I started to realize that it wasn't worth it to me. This is not to say that I thought the people I love in that city are not worth staying for- because that is not the case at all. I just honestly thought about how far away I was from my family and how I could not afford to even come home for Christmas this year to see them if I kept living there. I really had a great time at my internship with Lori Goldstein and working in the iLuminate Costume Shop. My living situation started to get stressful- and I didn't have the money to move to another place due to lack of security deposit money. Every person I spoke to on Craigslist wanted a big security deposit or either a year's lease. I decided to come back to my hometown, Taylorville, Illinois, to rest and keep applying to more concrete jobs and opportunities. I am lucky enough to have my parents take me back for a short time while I am trying to get the best opportunity I possibly can. I also really didn't dig the stressed out vibe in NYC- and how dirty it is. I am truly a midwest girl at heart....and I love wide open spaces. This is definitely an adjustment period. I am hoping to visit California in the next year and possibly land a job there... but I might start out in Chicago, first. Who knows where my next adventure will unfold :) Thanks for being here and thank you for being YOU. I like to stay pretty honest to you guys on this blog of mine. I want to tell you everything. I don't even record my thoughts in a paper diary anymore- so, this might be the result- brutal honesty... but in a good way. XO

Polly! What an adventure it must have been to be living that NYC life, at least now you can say you did it! Even if it wasn't for you, it's still awesome, and if you do ever get out here to California I'll show you all around!

Illinois FTW. I couldn't do New York either. Welcome back :)

Oh Polly. I'm sorry things didn't work out as you'd hoped, but I absolutely understand the way you feel. New York is a playground for the very rich... and for everyone else, it can be far more stress than it's worth. I'm glad that you at least gave it a go (and I'm sure you are, too), and if nothing else, you've realized what you DON'T want, at least at this point in your life. You have a supportive family who loves you and will be there for you during this adjustment period (heaven knows I'm still IN mine, and I'm super thankful that my family understands). Don't feel like you have to figure it all out immediately. Just follow your heart and do what feels right. That's all you can ask of yourself.

all people must follow their hearts, no matter where we go, so if you can be with your family thats is a great treasure!

Good for you, and thanks for posting. It always seems like people in big cities are posting about the coolness of their city, but never the reality of the sacrifices they make to live here. My husband and I made a tough decision a few years ago to stay in the midwest as well, instead of pursuing a life in California. It was hard, but worth it. We love our little life here. Good luck and congrats. thanks for being vulnerable and honest, it helps!

Now you can say that you've done it! I have wanted to try it...I'm a bit intimidated and really have a good job in Texas that would be hard to leave, but I still have a wandering heart sometimes. I think you have a great outlook. Just wait for what's next!

I admire you for deciding to leave and doing what's best for you. Me, I'm always too stubborn to do what's best for me - hence I'm stuck where I am now.
I hope things work out for you, I'm sure they will!

Good luck!

Good for you for being true to yourself and admitting that you weren't in the situation you wanted to be in. I've been living in London for 3 months now and it's very up and down. I can understand why you would move back to the country xx

Hi Polly, I just wanted to say good luck for your next adventure. Your blog posts inspire me and you're so creative so I'm sure you'll be successful at whatever you decide to do! I am more of a country/beach girl at heart as well :) xxx

I recently moved to a city from my little farm town. It is convenient because I can walk everywhere, but I've decided to move back closer to home, too! I miss my family & having woods close-by which I can go adventure in. I hope you find a place you really love!
