10 Days of Family (day one)

Hi! I've decided to make a new feature called "Ten Days of Family" in which I share a photo from my family's history each day. Day one is brought to you by my Great Great Great Grandfather Clark Lockwood. He illustrated this post card and sent it to my Great Grandmother Lucille Zeigler some time in between 1896 and 1910 when McKinley was president of the United States. There is no date on this post card, just Mckinley's face on the stamp and the "POSTAGE ONE CENT" writing under. In fact, he didn't even have to address the post card.. it simply says Lou Zeigler (for Lucille) on the back of it. The family portrait below is my Great Great Great Grandfather Lockwood's family. He is the man with the beard in the photo.
Apparently the town was so small that it got to her safely without a problem.
I really love learning about my family history.. I am so fortunate that my mother has all of these old photos and post cards of our family from so long ago!
love, polly

Oh definitely! My family is so fractured (my gran's siblings moved to the four corners of the earth!) that even though my mum now owns a ton of family photos there are so many people we don't recognise! I love that your family has kept that connection alive, it's so important.

Wow that is so cool!! I really should learn more about my family history...but no one really knows much about my dad's side, so I could start with my mom's XD

What treasures and what luck these have stayed in your family, along with their accompanying stories, for so long! I like the little fuzzy baby chick best of the postcard. I bet Lou was tickled pink when she received said postcard, over a hundred years ago!!

It is so awesome that your family has kept all those pictures. Where my family comes from there has been devastation from wars so it has not been possible to keep everything. There are a lot of gaps in the family tree that cannot be filled because there is a limited amount of information that can be recalled from the memory.
