Painting with Great Grandma Polly.

This is my Great Grandma Pauline Lindsey-Whitmer. Her husband died quite some time ago.. and she's all alone in her house. She is 95 years old and still makes her own meals and gets down on her hands and knees and scrubs the floor. Painting has been one of her hobbies for her whole life. She seems faint lately.. which makes me scared. I thought I'd take my last night in Taylorville to spend with her doing her favorite thing (one of mine, too!): painting.
She started it off.. then I started helping :) I've had this idea for a while.. I am so glad I actually went through with it. She was kind of upset with me taking these pictures, though... it was 6 PM (about her bed time..) and she wasn't all made up. That's another thing... she gets up every morning and gets dressed and puts make up on! It really is astonishing.
You may have seen my previous post about her, here.
I will always have this painting to remember her by :)
do you have anything special that you do with your grandparents?
love, polly

My late grandmother was a painter too! She was also an incredible art teacher and taught private art lessons for over 40 years. I still have the picture of our very first "art lesson" together - me at 2 years in an overized pink sweatshirt with my cheap Crayola paints. It sits above my drawing desk and is a constant reminder of how amazing she was and how much she inspired me!

It's so great you spent this time creating something you can always cherish together. The painting is beautiful - thank you for sharing!

I think this is the most beautiful thing ever, Polly. What a sweet grandma! And that's why she's so young...she keeps doing what she loves. :)

This is simply wonderful! :) I've only met one of my grandparents because the others passed away but whenever I visit with my grandpa he always loves to take me to the Sizzler and then tell me lovely stories of when he was younger. Grandparents are amazing!

This is lovely! I try to see my grandparents every weekend and even though they're in their 70s they're so spry! I love them to bits.

I love that you paint with your grandmother! I scrapbook with mine, and work with beads and fabrics with my boyfriends grandmother.

Love it.

How awesome that she's still able to do all these things at an age of 95! Wow! :) It's so good to see that you can live a long and happy life in times where you read that people die of heart attacks at the age of 35 in the newspaper.
My grandma is 73 and already suffers from dementia which is really sad because she has forgotten about all the things she loved to do.
We try to visit her as often as possible and then we have coffee and cake and my Mum does her hair and all.

That is so very sweet! I love that she gets up and dresses and does her makeup every day. It makes me feel a little guilty though; I sometimes stay in pj's all day on work from home days, and jump in the shower 30 minutes before my guy gets home. :-) She is awesome; you are lucky to have her!

this is totally the sweetest thing ever. I love it. So adorable.

Not that i do now... but im connected with my granny through sewing. She taught me how to use a sewing machine, bought me my first sewing machine and then when that caked it gave me the one she bought for herself brand new.. sweet so she is. And teeny!! Im 6'0 tall and shes 4'11 so when we are buying haberdashery supplies its quite funny. I look like a fumbling giant beside her wee grey granny locks. The older she gets the more shes like yoda!

Just a wee note of sweetness for you - Im not being mean or anything at all... Its just that the way your blog is - because your sidebar images are so huge in such a small space its really difficult for me to differentiate the content from the sidebar. Forgive me, I have CFS and Fibromyalgia and my concentration is badly affected and it takes me absolutely ages to process things but i know a LOT of bloggers out there suffer the same as me.. just a wee heads up really. and the giant text at the bottom of the post is really confusing initially! Not hateful just something you might think about changing to make your blog easier for people to read. Its very crowded at the minute and takes to long for me to figure out sometimes. I hope that comes across as helpful and not mean or rudes. I have much respect and love for your blog!
and you are too cute!

Im going to go call my granny now :) xo
