I love your name, Polly! Not many people have such a name, there are way too many Zoe's in my life for me to feel original. But being Zoe BEARD in itself is difficult, it's still awkward when cashiers at stores ask me how to spell my last name and I just say "beard, like on your face" then rub my chin. I've been called Zoe Mustache before and boys especially always teased me and said my facial hair was growing into my name, when I never even had any. I love my name now, hence the name of my blog! And I agree, junior high was the WORST! Your name is so great though:)Very original!

Ugh, I hear you! I have a VERY common Greek name, especially in Cyprus, where my dad is from, but here in the UK people really struggle with it. It's pronounced like Lenny, but with an E at the beginning: e-LEN-i. Really not rocket science, but I've been accused of Ellen, Elaine, Helena, Helen, Helaina, Elainey (not even real names!). Most people call me Lenny, which I don't really mind (I offer it as an alternative when they really can't wrap their head around the whole thing) but I'd rather they made the effort to say my name properly, if I'm honest. I tell people it's Greek for Helen, and they say, "oh, shall I call you Helen then?" Um, no, my name's Eleni. It's such a pain when every time you meet a new person, you have to get into a conversation about your name. I really hate it when people say "oh, that's unusual" or "I've never heard of a name like that before" like I made it up or something! Yes, I made up an unpronounceable name for myself, just to make my everyday life that little bit harder, and other people just that little bit more irritating...sigh. But you're right, it makes us terribly exotic and interesting people in the end :)

Ha ha, I've just remembered, I had a friend called Daisy, and customer service idiots on the phone always used to think she'd said "Davey!"

I just love that you put green and red together--and not for Christmas!

Wasn't junior high awful? I wouldn't return to that point in my life for anything! People didn't make fun of my name; they found other things, though! As an adult, though, I've found I tend to like people the best who were made fun of a bit in their adolescence. I think we're better off for it and we don't have to take that crap anymore!

It is cruel the way kids are so vicious! I can see how it must have been hard to be called Polly as a child. My name is Anna and once or twice the other kids called me Anna Banana in a mean way which I HATED! But it was very rare so I can't complain too much! Polly is such a lovely name. I'm glad you like it now. I think it's just the right name for you.

Aww, Polly I'm sorry you had to go through that! I'm so glad that it's made you a stronger person today, though. I think your name is perfect! :)

Haha someone once asked me what Holly was short for... I said "hallway".

I loveeeee your outfit!
& I love your name, Polly!
It's better than mine. I have three syllables in my name so people tend to find it difficult to hear me say my name
But you look so good in that gorgeous green dress!

Lots of love, Josephine ♥

I think Polly is a cute name! I can understand what you're saying, I haven't a good relationship with my name too- Giulia is a VERY popular name here and having such a common, plain name bothers me. Also, because of my surname (Peruzzi) people used to make fun of me (untranslatable word pun). But then I look at other people and I find out that a person surnamed Culetto (=little ass) really exists, well, I feel so lucky ;)
I love this outfit by the way! So classy!

Great post! Polly is a really cute and original name. People aren't used to strange names. Which is a shame!

Wow- this really makes me think about the fact that we named our son an unusual name, I hate to think that he would go through anything you had to, but I know jr high is the worst about teasing for anything. In high school things get a little better surprisingly if only because there are so many kids. I think your name is lovely but I have always loved traditional names and don't really care to name my child anything trendy.
Love this outfit, green and vintage are my favorites and lovely pop of red!

Thank you all so so much for your kind comments.. they really mean a lot to me.. I loved reading them! Before I start commenting you each back individually, I wanted to say that I am going to name my daughter an unusual name, too! I've had it picked out for a couple years now... Maud. I know that she will be ridiculed in whatever ways possible.. but it is something that I've come to recognize as a personality trait that makes you so much stronger in life!! <3

love, polly

Polly, Maud is one of my most favorite names:) I think it's an excellent choice! In Austin lots of kids have strange names. I have a friend named Andraya and people still say it like Ann-Dree-Uh. I also have a friend named Cecil which she says translates into "the blind one", haha.

I didn't have a real boyfriend until I was 16. And even then, it wasn't anything serious. I just dated them because I needed to prove I liked boys XD

My middle name is Germaine, after my great-grandmother too :)

I love this post, and I know how you feel! I think now I'm glad to have an unusual name, but when I was younger I really wished my parents had picked something normal! I remember saying to them 'Alex is a girl's name too!' when I found out if I was a boy they would have named me Alexander. I also have the joy of an unusual surname which I like now but HATED when I was growing up... I'll probably be the only Lyndall Clipstone ever, which is kind of fun! Even if half of the time people mishear my name as 'Lynda' and nobody knows how to spell 'Clipstone'... It's two real words, it's not hard! Hehe.

I love the name Maud! We've picked unusual names for our future children too (Felix for a boy, Lorelei for a girl), and I'm hoping that whatever happens they will be happy with it when they are grown up :)
